4. NUMBERS
Star of Jacob: King of the Jews. Nu 24:17; Mt 2:2.
The Star of Jacob depicted Jesus as the light that enlightened the world with the revelation that God’s Son had appeared to deliver the people from their sins.
For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” Lk 2:30-32
Years before Daniel had recorded that the Messiah would come.
“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One (Jesus), the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens (49 years),’ and sixty-two ‘sevens 434 years)... Dan 9:25
Nehemiah was authorized to rebuild Jerusalem in 445 B.C. (found in historical records) by Artaxerxes’ decree Neh 2:1,5,9. Then Jesus would come in 49 + 434 = 483 years.
In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes… and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah (Jerusalem) where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it…” 9 So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king’s letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.
“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near (many years from now). A star (Messiah) will come out of Jacob (from the line of Jacob); a scepter (a king) will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth. Nu 24:17
So, the wisemen from Persia, where Daniel had prophesied many years earlier, recognized that the fulfillment of the prophesy was near and set out to follow the star.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi (wisemen) from the east (Persia) came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one (Jesus) who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Mt 2:1,2
Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus has given us a guide to help us fulfill the works God has prepared for us to walk in Eph 2:10.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. Jn 16:13
