HOLY TRINITY

Simply Explained

The Bible teaches that there is only one true God.

…Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. Isa 43:10

“This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. Isa 44:6

The Bible also teaches that there are three Persons in the one God.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Mt 28:19

Notice it does not say in the “names” but “name” of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit revealing that it is a composite or unified one, not an absolute numeric three names.

The Bible also teaches that the three Persons are distinct identities.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Mt 3:16,17

Jesus is coming out of the water, the Holy Spirit is descending down on Jesus, and the Father is speaking from heaven to the people demonstrating that the three are distinct.

VERSE 1

 LOVING FATHER, ARCHITECT OF ALL

FAITHFUL SON, AND BUILDER OF GOD’S GREAT HALL

YOU ARE THE MASTER, YOU ARE THE CRAFTSMAN

SUCH A TREASURE YOU BESTOWED

SENDING YOUR HOLY SPIRIT

TO GUIDE US WHEREVER WE GO

COMMENTARY

God the Father is the planner Isa 46:10, 11; Eph 1:4,5;  3:10,11 the architect of everything Heb 3:4.

God the Son is the actual builder Heb 3:3 of all things Col 1:16; Jn 1:3.   He was the Master Craftsman Pr 8:30 NKJV when the Father planned creation. Jesus built His spiritual house (church) Heb 3:6 through His death and resurrection.

Peter describes God’s house with Jesus as the corner stone 1 Pe 2:7,8 / living stone 1 Pe 2:4  and his disciples as living stones 1 Pe 2:5.

The Holy Spirit is a wonderful treasure God has given us Ac 2:38.

Jesus asked God the Father to send His Holy Spirit Jn 14:16, 17 to guide us into all truth Jn 16:13.

CHORUS

UNITED IN PURPOSE, DISTINCT IN PERSON

LOVING, MERCIFUL AND TRUE

THREE PERSONS IN ONE NATURE

A HOLY TRINITY ARE YOU

The Trinity is united in fulfilling the Father’s purpose to save mankind, yet each person has a distinct role (Father: plans/ Son: executes plan/ Holy Spirit completes plan).

Persons and nature are two different categories. Example: You can have three light sources of blue, red and green shining on one spot and it will produce white light. The lights (persons) are three different colors (identities-who God is) but they form one light color (nature-what God is).

VERSE 2

AUTHOR OF OUR SALVATION THROUGH YOUR GRACE

YOU SENT JESUS TO DIE IN OUR PLACE

THE LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN

OUT OF THE TWO YOU CREATED ONE MAN

RECONCILING BOTH THROUGH YOUR CROSS

FOR YOU ARE THE GOD THAT CAME TO SAVE THE LOST

God’s love was His reason to extend grace to His fallen creation Eph 2:4,5.

When God created the world Rev 13:8, the Father’s eternal plan Eph 3:9,10,11 was for Jesus to be the Saviour of the world Jn 3:16.

Jesus through His sacrifice brought both Jews and Gentiles together into one body   Eph 2:14.

Jesus’ mission was to come and save the lost Lk 19:10.

CHORUS
VERSE 3

HOLY SPIRIT YOU POUR YOUR OIL UPON OUR HEADS

WITH LOVING POWER YOU REVIVE THE SOULS THAT ONCE WERE DEAD

RENEWING OUR MINDS TO THE WORD OF CHRIST

TEACHING US TRUTH, YOU PAID THE PRICE

AND THOUGH TODAY WE SEE A DIM REFLECTION

SOON WE WILL KNOW YOUR COMPLETE PERFECTION

The Father sends His Holy Spirit to indwell believers anointing them signifying His seal of ownership on us 2 Co 1:21,22. The Holy Spirit’s power and authority allows us to fulfill our calling Ac 1:8.

The Spirit gives life Jn 6:63; to dead souls Tit 3:5.

The Holy Spirit’s role is to conform us into the image of Christ 2 Co 3:18 through His guidance and teaching of the Word Jn 16:13. His truths renew our minds Ro 12:2 and refreshes us when trials discourages our hope.

The Holy Spirit reveals the Gospel to us Jn 16:8,9. We are lost sinners whom Jesus redeemed through His death and offers us life through His resurrection.

Today, we only comprehend a small portion of God’s plan 1 Co 13:12, but when we are in God’s presence we will understand fully.
