GOD’S HIDDEN MESSAGE

Beneath the literal truth of God’s Word is hidden spiritual manna for those who are hungry enough to dig for it.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. Pr 25:2

God often hides or conceals matters (truths, mysteries, wisdom) for His glory, but it is honorable (and our privilege) to diligently seek and search them out like kings pursuing understanding. God hides truth in Scripture (parables, types, shadows), in creation, and in His ways. An example of “His ways” is found in Genesis 1:3, God creates light on Day 1, before creating the sun, moon, or stars on Day 4 (v. 14–19). On the surface, it seems strange: How can there be “day and night” without a sun? But God is hiding a deeper truth in plain sight: Light is not dependent on created sources (sun, stars). God Himself is the ultimate source of light and life. This foreshadows Christ, the true Light who shines in darkness (Jn 1:4–5, 9): “In him was life; and the life was the light of men… That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 ties it directly: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us… Dt 29:29

Almighty and Magnificent God

Answer: God created time (in the beginning), space (the heaven), and matter (the earth).

Since God created these elements, we can deduce the following:

God is Eternal (Outside of Time)

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. Ps 90:2

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.  Rev 22:13

God is Omnipresent (Fills Space)

Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.
 Jer 23:24

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?  1 Ki 8:27

God is Spirit (Not Bound by Matter)

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  Jn 4:24

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.  Col 1:16

Holy Trinity

Answer: The word “God” is plural in number, but the verb “created” is singular in number.

The word used for “God” in this verse is the Hebrew word “Elohim.” What’s interesting is that “Elohim” is a plural form of the word “El,” which means “God.” However, even though it’s a plural word, it is used with a singular verb, “created.” This combination of a plural noun with a singular verb is unusual and hints at a plurality within the one God.

Additionally, later in Genesis 1:26, God says, “Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.” The use of “us” and “our” suggests a conversation within the Godhead, supporting the idea that God is more than one Person but still one God.

This is the understanding of the Trinity that God is one Being who exists in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. While Genesis 1:1 doesn’t directly explain the Trinity, the use of “Elohim” and the plural language in these early chapters of Genesis provide hints that God’s nature is complex and multi-personal.

Let Me Live

Answer: Christ’s life in us leads to maturity (form), while the Holy Spirit is the Person who nurtures us (Jn 16:13).

In Genesis 1:2, the earth was “without form” (tohu), and God’s Spirit began the work of bringing order, purpose, and life.

In Galatians 4:19, Paul desires that Christ be “formed” in believers, transforming them from a state of spiritual chaos or immaturity to one of order, purpose, and Christ-likeness.

In Genesis, the Spirit of God moved to transform the formless earth.

In Corinthians, it is through the Holy Spirit that believers are transformed into Christ’s likeness (2 Co 3:18).

Genesis 1:2,3 points to the original creation being shaped by God’s Word and Spirit.

Galatians 4:19 reflects the idea of a new creation (as in 2 Co 5:17), where believers are reshaped into the image of Christ through the Spirit.

He’s The Light

Answer: The word “void” represents emptiness and a lack of life, both in the physical and spiritual worlds. Jesus came to fill that void. By dying for our sins, He offers us the fullness of life.

Isaiah 55:11 says God’s Word will not return void but will accomplish its purpose. Similarly, Genesis 1:3 shows that God’s Word immediately fulfilled its purpose by bringing light into the darkness.

This idea also has a spiritual meaning. After the Fall, humanity became “void” of the life of God. Jesus, who is called “the Word” (Jn 1:1), took on flesh (Jn 1:14) to restore life to humanity.

In John 1:1–4, it says:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

This passage shows that Jesus, as the Word, is both the Creator and the source of life and light. Just as God’s Word (Jesus) brought light into the physical darkness in Genesis, He brings spiritual light and life into the “void” of humanity’s spiritual darkness.

Sleepy Dreamer

Answer: The Holy Spirit convicts us that we are sinners and Jesus’ sacrifice forgives our sins and His Gospel light gives us life.

Lost mankind is symbolized as waters.

The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. Rev 17:15

Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them… Isa 17:12,13

Oil and water do not mix but if an emulsifier is added (soap) then they join. The Holy Spirit is the “Oil“ (1 Sa 16:13) and lost mankind is the “Water“ which do not mix because of man’s sin (Isa 59:2). However, Jesus’ blood (like the soap) is the emulsifier that allows sinful mankind to be cleansed and joined to God.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:16-18) are the agents who carry out the Father’s will (the Father, OF whom are all things…Jesus Christ, BY whom are all things…1 Co 8:6).

Spiritually, the Holy Spirit convicts men that they are sinners (Jn 16:8) and the Gospel brings light (Ro 10:17) and life into these new Creations (2 Co 5:17).

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.. 2 Co 4:6
