Day 5: How does the creation of Adam show us that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each have distinct roles, yet work together in perfect unity to give life? What does this mean for how God is still at work in our lives today?

The Trinity’s distinct roles in the creation of Man:
God the Father is the architect, originator and planner. He speaks the decision and initiates the act of creation. In Genesis 1:26 He says, “Let us make man in our image…” The plural “us/our” shows the Father is not acting alone; He is including the Son and the Spirit in the plan.
God the Son (Jesus) is the agent or builder. The New Testament tells us the Father created everything through the Son (the eternal Word Jn 1:3). Jesus is the one who actually carries out the Father’s creative plan. The dust is shaped and formed because the Son is at work.
God the Holy Spirit is the life-giver and animator. The “breath of life” that turns the formed body into a living person is the Holy Spirit Himself. The same Spirit who hovered over the waters in Genesis 1:2 is now breathed into Adam’s nostrils.
After Jesus rises from the dead, He breathes on the disciples and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit” Jn 20:22. Jesus (the Son) is repeating the same action the Trinity did at the very beginning: breathing the Spirit so that new life can begin. It is a picture of the “new creation,” just as the first Adam received physical life by the breath of God, the new Adam (Jesus) now gives spiritual life by the same Holy Spirit.
In short: The Father plans and speaks, the Son carries it out and the Holy Spirit’s life in breathed into Adam. One God, three Persons, perfectly united in the creation of Adam.
Holy Trinity
Application of the Trinity:
The Trinity is not just a doctrine to believe; it is a relationship to enjoy and a pattern to trust every day. You were created by a God who is relationship at His very core. That means you are never meant to live in isolation. Just as the Father, Son, and Spirit worked together to give Adam life, God now invites you into that same loving community through the Holy Spirit.
The same Trinity that gave physical life to Adam is the same Trinity that gives spiritual life to you today. When you feel empty, dry, or lifeless, you can ask the Holy Spirit to “breathe” on you again, just as Jesus breathed on the disciples. New life, fresh power, and renewed purpose always come from the same breath that created the universe.
Start your day remembering the Trinity’s roles. Thank the Father for planning your life, trust the Son to carry out His good purposes today, and invite the Holy Spirit to fill you with His breath and power. When you live this way, you are stepping into the very rhythm of creation itself, the same rhythm that turned dust into a living person.
That is the powerful, life-giving truth this “Roles” card is pointing us to. The Trinity didn’t just create Adam long ago; the Trinity is still creating new life in every person who receives the breath of the Holy Spirit through Jesus.
